This type of non-regenerative frequency-shift repeater does not only amplifies the signal power, but also introduces space and frequency diversity by transparently replicating the Base Station signal at a different channel dramatically improving the network performance.
The use of repeaters is highly recommended for rural WiMAX deployments using the license-exempt 5 GHz bands. These bands are typically characterized by output power limitations set by local regulators but large spectrum availability. Albentia Systems WiMAX repeaters make use of this spectrum availability to enable cost-effective carrier-class deployments in the 5.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands without the need for expensive high-power Base Stations.
